How this is calculated
Federal income tax uses the actual 2026 tax brackets and standard deduction, sourced directly from the IRS's own tax year2026 inflation-adjustment announcement (Revenue Procedure 2025-32). FICA uses the 2026 Social Security wage base and the standard 6.2% / 1.45% rates, plus the Additional Medicare Tax above the statutory threshold for your filing status.
State tax is exact — 0% — for the 9 states with no tax on wage income: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. For every other state, this tool asks for your own effective state tax rate rather than presenting an unverified number as fact. That result is clearly labeled Estimated, never Exact.
Not included yet: pre-tax deductions (401(k), health insurance), itemized deductions, and city/local income tax. This calculator assumes the standard deduction and no pre-tax withholding.
